Searching Good Auto Insurance

July 16th, 2009

Are you looking for good rates without getting ripped off? Join the club. Yes, I’ve certainly found good auto insurance in the past, but like a lot of Americans, the problem is that I’ve moved to different states a number of times. Then the process begins once again.

I don’t know if I can tell you exactly what to look for, but I can certainly hit a few key points. And let me just say that customer service is KEY. Rates and quotes and all that jazz are things to pay close attention to, but if the guy or girl you talk to treats you as just a “number”, run out the door.

Forget it. You need to understand exactly what your policy covers and what it doesn’t cover. That way, you can drive your vehicle with a little more peace of mind, you know? There’s nothing worse than getting in a very minor accident, only to compound it with not knowing what’s going to happen next. The Waiting Game is a miserable one, and there’s no need to submit yourself to this torture. So again: Customer Service! Rather than create a list here, I’m just going to recommend a couple more things. Only YOU know what kind of insurance you need for your vehicle.

So: shop around! Take notes. Sure, you can get online quotes, and that may be easier, actually. But make sure you know what you’re getting into and if you can trust the online companies. By taking notes, I’d say that coming up with a spreadsheet or something similar to compare the positives, negatives, and prices for each of the companies you’re scouting.

Finally, relax. Insurance shopping can drive you insane, and making tough decisions while stressed out can be a colossal mistake. Yes, it’s important to find the right company, but it’s only car insurance.
